Individual Dental Plan
An individual dental
plan is really cheap compared to individual dental insurance. Plus,
a plan is easy to get, pretty much hassle-free and doesn't require a
huge waiting period like insurance does.
A good individual
dental plan runs around $100/year. You can use any dentist in their
network and usually end up paying about half what you normally would
for the service. It doesn't matter if you've had a lot of dental
problems in the past, you won't get charged extra due to your dental
history.
For an individual,
dental insurance costs more than a plan (around $35/month or
$420/year) and the amount they pay caps at around $1000 for the
year. You have to pay a deductible and you are responsible for a
co-pay of between 10-60% of each visit depending on whether you go
to a dentist in the company's network or outside it. So, if your
dentist charged $300 and you have a 20% co-pay you would pay $60 for
this visit.
